The International Day of Happiness is on March 20, 2023. It is founded on the belief that happiness is a fundamental human goal and that promoting happiness and well-being can lead to a more peaceful, equitable, and sustainable world. It is a day to recognize the power of happiness to transform the lives of all and make the world a better place.
In honour of International Happiness Day, and inspired by the notion that happiness is a choice and we can learn to choose to be happy, we started the new tradition of *Happiness Week* at Erode KG campus, this year onwards, as a way to consciously bring out within the kindergarten children, the habit of happiness, through activities and discussion, and the simple understanding that while happiness can come from anywhere and everywhere, more importantly it can come from within oneself.
Children were encouraged to reflect on what makes them happy. There was discussion to bring about recognition and understanding that what makes one person happy might be different from what makes another individual happy, and this is okay, as long as we are respectful and supportive of each other.
There were myriad happiness activities for the week, across the grades from Playgroup to KG 2, with music, movement, arts and crafts, time in nature, role play, language expressions, sensory play and a field trip too.
Children created some beautiful memories with their classmates and teachers on their ‘finding happiness journey’. We earnestly hope that they will carry this lesson in their hearts and minds, long and far, as they keep growing up to one day become mature adults who know how to find happiness every day and everywhere in all areas of their lives.
